About Ascend Church

Welcome to Ascend Church!

We began in 1838 as First Baptist Church of Howell. Since then the church has been a pillar in the Howell community. Ascend is a place where people from all walks of life come together to worship, learn, and support one another. At Ascend Church, we are committed to helping people experience the love of Jesus Christ and to share that love with their neighbor. We believe Christ's love for us transforms lives and makes a positive impact in our community. Join us for our weekly services, community events, and outreach programs to experience the joy of belonging to a loving church family focused on being a blessing to our community.

Why Ascend Church? 

In August of 2025 the church voted to change the name to Ascend Church. The name has significant meaning related to Howell: First, related to Balloon Fest that occurs every year as the hot air balloons ascend into the sky. Plus, there is a hot air balloon sculpture at the corner of the parking lot in front of the church. Second, because the Bible teaches the only way for us to ascend to God is through Jesus Christ. He is the only way, the only truth, and the only life.

We choose a name that both relates to Howell and the Gospel.
